Club Frequently Asked Questions.
Pictou County Mariners
How often would I swim …?
You can swim 2 to 5 days per week. However to compete in the Swim Nova Scotia meets, you must be a competitive club swimmer and swim a minimum of 3 times a WeeK.
When do I swim...?
Future League is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 4:30 to 5:30. Aged 11 and older swimming is Monday to Friday - 4:00 to 5:30. There is also extra practice available on certain Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 10:00 (depending on pool and coaching availability)
Where and when are the swim meets held …?
This depends on if you are a age group or Future League swimmer. A complete list of the meet schedule is available on Swim Nova Scotia's Web Site, a link is provided in the link section.
Do I have to compete …?
No you don't, although that's half the fun of the team.
Do I have to go to all the meets...?
No, you can go to as many or as few as you would like. But of course we encourage everyone to go to as many meets as possible. They give you a goal to work towards, you can measure your improvement, you support your team-mates, and most of all, they are fun.
Do I need any special equipment...?
All you need is a swimsuit, goggles, and water (for drinking; the pool water will already be there for swimming). Exercise equipment, fins, kick-boards, etc will be provided by the team. There may be opportunities during the season to purchase team apparel such as swimwear, shirts, tracksuits, or shorts, depending on interest.
What are the registration fees...?
Fees vary depending on number of swim days and competitive status of the swimmer. A rate schedule is available and includes a suggested schedule for post-dated cheques if you would like to pay in several installments. Cheques are to be made out to Pictou County Mariners Swim Club (or PCMSC). Other payment options are available, and can be worked out with the treasurer at the start of the season.
